My arms were always so wobbly and my back was totally inflexible when I attempted the pose. Within the last 2 years or so of my yoga practice, mostly by teaching myself, studying Yoga Journal's podcasts and having patience with myself...I can now honestly say that I love doing backbends! After coming out of a backbend, I feel so uplifted and full of new life because I've opened up my shoulders, heart and chest.

2. I have sensitive skin and very rarely venture out and try new skincare. I stick to the basics: Cetaphil face wash, Cetaphil moisturizer, Clinique Superbalanced Foundation. Maybe it's all the Youtube makeup videos I've been watching but I purchased this Missah BB Cream on a whim and I love it. It does have a slight fragrance but so far, I haven't had any reaction to it and a little bit goes a long way. I mostly use it for my undereye circles since I do find the product to a bit on the oily side and it keeps my eyes well moisturized. All in all, a good do it all makeup base to have in my arsenal.
I used to sketch for fun but now-a-days it seems like I can never find the time for it. The process of sketching slowed me down, forced me to sit down and take pencil to paper, quieted the voice of my nasty inner-critic and made me open my eyes and appreciate the people and things around me. Mental note to self: Sketch. Sketch anything! I have a bottle of this Cholula Hot Sauce stashed in my drawer at work. When I want to add some kick to my brown bagged lunches, this hot sauce hits the spot. I also love mixing a couple of tablespoons of the sauce with sliced sweet potatoes, and baking them in the oven to create delicious and savory fries.
2. High-waisted shorts: I am so happy that high-waisted bottoms are back. I love this inspiring Spring look from Dace's lookbook. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I can't wait for the warmer weather to arrive.
Pre-code Hollywood Movies
I'm a sucker for old Hollywood movies. Pre-code movies were made in the 1930's and are pretty risque and scandalous even for our modern times. I have been hibernating this winter and watching old movies on the weekends. I thoroughly enjoyed "Rain" with Joan Crawford and "The Divorcee" with Norma Shear.
Last weekend, I finally found a place that sold metallic spray paints and decided to get my craft on. As promised several months ago, I am finally posting a picture of one of the items I spray painted. I bought this old cat statue at some antique market on Bowery. I remember paying $20 for him and carrying the 20 pound thing back home on the subway with me. Although, I loved his gray and weathered appearance and his black goth eyeliner, I decided to give him some color for the new year. Tah-dah!

Lately, I've become reacquainted with several things I love to do: shopping and sewing. Though sewing doesn't come easily to me, shopping does. Since Spring has arrived, I have been looking forward to all the fresh produce that will be available at the Farmer's Market. The shopping totes pictured above are so cute. I decided to abstain from buying a bag and make my own since I had a ton of ripstop fabric (no pics at this time since my sewing skills need some serious practice). This helpful and inspiring video about making your own bag can be found here:

I have made several and plan to make some more for friends and family. Once you get the hang of making the simple tote in the video, you can easily start to customize your own bag to your preferences.Girliohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985405150453404870noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-622421802488156417.post-36886782761184241142009-02-25T11:39:00.001-05:002010-01-23T23:33:05.105-05:00Amazing song!
I love using labradorite in my pieces just for that reason. It is a feldspar mineral that is a dark cool gray color with surprising flashes of purple, green yellow and blue. Please take a looksie at the labradorite earrings I created last night: Elegant Labradorite Stick Earrings.

I don't know about you, but when I make jewelry, work on my website or blog, I like to listen to music. Music can be so inspiring and Victoria Williams is one of my favorite musicians. I am a huge fan of hers because she makes beautiful songs about finding the positive in the negative and beauty in what most people would probably find mundane. She is a multiple sclerosis sufferrer and it was the benefit album, "Sweet Relief" that introduced me to her music. While doing a search for her on youtube, I found some performances by Evan Dando from The Lemonheads (talk about a hot rock-er!) and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam (another hot rock-er!) covering her songs. Amazing! Have a great weekend.

Girliohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985405150453404870noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-622421802488156417.post-17263621169872714532008-12-04T14:42:00.002-05:002011-02-15T23:57:22.942-05:00All types of cameos...

I recently made a small collection of cameo jewelry. I paired the lacquered cameos with antiqued gold plated filigrees. I have been reading about the history of cameos and it's interesting to find out that they date back to 300 years before the birth of Christ. They were first believed to have hailed from Egypt and all sorts of people wore them, including women from the Hellenistic era to Napoleon.

Speaking of cameos, this Cameo dates back to the 1980's and his red thong always makes laugh.
As a child, before the advent of e-mail, I used to collect stationery and write long detailed letters to my friends, family and pen pals. Though, I still admire stationery and imagine all the lovely notes I could write to all of my dear buddies now-a-days, I have come to face the sad truth...that I am a just not a hand-written note kind of gal.

However, to my surprise, something changed all of that. I have always been a fan of Mrs. Fading Flower's lovely hand printed handmade goods but her new Christmas cards sold me. They were so cute and reminded me of simpler times, that my passion for the art/act of picking up a ball point pen to commit words to paper was reignited. Okay, so I am being a bit dramatic here....but oh my....her cards are so cute!

I received my beautiful handmade/printed cards in the mail yesterday from Fading Flowers' Etsy shop and was floored. I look forward to sending out my Christmas cards this year! So lovely and beautifully packaged. Make great gifts for your loved ones. Go buy yourself some lovely cards pronto!
Girliohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985405150453404870noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-622421802488156417.post-89747073694667133692008-11-29T16:41:00.001-05:002008-11-29T16:53:05.650-05:00Wander-lusting...
"Natural" Pools in the Atlantic Ocean...
Originally uploaded by thegirlio

Ever since I went to Portugal earlier this year, I have been wanting to plan another trip overseas. Thankfully, PBS's show, "Spain on the Road Again" has been keeping me temporarily satiated. Mario Batali, Mark Bittman, Gwenyth Paltrow and Claudia Bassols enjoy the culture, the people and most importantly the food that Spain has to offer. As a result of watching this show, I am now obsessed with making and eating pan con tomate on a daily basis. There are only 3 episodes left in the series and I will be sad to see it end.
Girliohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985405150453404870noreply@blogger.com0
